Rock icon and Bay Area fixture Carlos Santana put his Marin County home on the market, looking for a “smooth’’ sale at an asking price of $5.8 million. The guitarist decided to sell because he now spends more time in his Las Vegas and Hawaii abodes, according to his broker.

Santana bought the 4-bedroom, 3.5-bath Tiburon home in 2007, said listing agent Shana Rohde-Lynch, largely because of the “bridge-to-bridge views” and the sense of privacy afforded by the nearly one-acre property near the end of a cul de sac up in the Marin hills. He bought the home for $5.1 million, according to public records.

Santana didn’t make many changes to the updated 1978 property outside of some minor renovations like adding electric blinds and putting a Tesla charging station into the two-car garage, she said. That means the “acoustical dome” in the home’s foyer was just a happy coincidence for the musician.

“It’s a circular place on the floor that sounds like a microphone when you stand on the dark circle of the entry,” Rohde-Lynch explained.

The 3,785-square-foot home has a few other interesting features, including a motor court, several levels of view decks and patios, and a main-level primary suite that takes in the bay below.ADVERTISEMENT

There’s no shortage of luxury home buyers looking in Marin County and the Bay Area at large these days, and so far the ones coming to see this property have loved the big entertaining spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, location and architecture, said Rohde-Lynch. The views are the biggest “wow factor” of the home, even more so than its celebrity owner, she said.

“I think it draws attention to the home, but it still has to fit the needs of the buyer,” she said.
