Open House Obsession: Tour This Enchanting Mill Valley Compound In The Redwoods, $2.8M
Where: 861 Lovell Avenue, Mill Valley
When: Sunday, April 2 from 1:00pm-4:00pm
What: An enchanting compound perched in the Redwoods minutes from downtown Mill Valley. Built by architect Daniel Lieberman in 1962, it’s a soulful composition of open, angled spaces anchored by a pair or massive brick arches and a central fireplace, not unlike the work of Lieberman’s mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s been in the same family for 50 years, lovingly cared for.
The 2-bed, 2-bath main structure has an independent 1-bed, 1-bath apartment on a lower level. There’s also a 1-bed, 1-bath guest house.
The kitchen and entryway fountain both have vintage Heath Ceramics tile.
What We Love: Lieberman’s sense of materials. The compound is built of old-growth redwoods (trees the likes of which we may never see again) with beams spanning the open space, supported by slender columns; he chose a shallow-profile orange brick that would not look out of place in ancient Rome.
More: Check out the agents’ outstanding dedicated site for additional details and images. There’s also a twilight tour (with cocktails!) scheduled for Thursday, April 6 from 5:30-7:30.
